Think outside of the box?

Are they even the same thing?

It’s a cliché… but ‘thinking outside of the box’ is so fashionable, isn’t it?

As bloggers, we want to stand out and be different. But, we also want to fit in and be accepted. My experience of blogging; is that we’re all quite friendly and willing to help each other. I ask you – where else in the competitive world of writing would you find another writer encouraging your work and actually displaying it, in place of their work? They might want to… but it would be professional suicide.

Competition can be a dirty word. In order to survive you have to be better, think better and, in our case write better. When you pitch those article /book /novel ideas, they have to be the very best ; otherwise they won’t make it.

So we’re encouraged to THINK OUTSIDE OF THAT BOX!  Take an idea and look at it from a different angle. Make people sit up and think about said idea, in a new and original  way.

But, as we all know… there are only so many combinations of storylines and ways to deal with articles. So, eventually everything comes full circle [think fashion] and we’re back to where we started. Thinking outside of the box again!

Personally, I love being different and always try to think alternatively. I’m not an especially competitive person, but when it comes to my writing, I suspect that drives me more and I’m out be the best that I can be. I’ve never been a sheep and I suspect that this is true of most writers and creative people. I mean we have to have a thick skin for when we tell other people what we do and we’re met with that damn smirk … again! The black sheep syndrome I think!

So, how about you?

  • Do you dare to be different?
  • Do you think outside of the box?
  • Are you competitive?

I’ve got some ironing to do now and I’m going to think out of the box about how I can make it stand out and be different.

I could throw it all away and buy new clothes? Too expensive. Take to wearing the creased look? Too old to get away with that look. Wear no clothes? You can get arrested for that.

I know!… I’ll iron in the garden… it’s spring again, today. This thinking out of the box is so easy.

Thanks for dropping by and have a great day… out of your box.

Until the next time.

Dorne. 🙂

  1. Heard the expression so many times in the workplace, but never really understood it. I think it is too clever stuff for me Dorne, and that’s why I never came up with any of the answers when we were given problems to solve and told to think outside the box. I just could not see those other choices. However, when others did come up with the answers I always thought “why on earth did I not think of that?” Sometimes the answers are right in front of us but, for what ever reason, we cannot see them. I need to start wearing my spectacles more often 🙂

  2. Don’t sell yourself short Hugh. Perhaps their ideas were rubbish.
You certainly have different ideas. I mean take that cat for instance… who would have guessed that! LOL!
    Yeah, I know… I’m like a dog with a bone!
You’re cleverer than you think. Now get back in your box, please. 🙂
