I could use some help… but, not self-help.

My book shelves and drawers are full of self-help books, that cover a range of subjects…

  • get organized
  • de-clutter your house and your life
  • stop wasting your time
  • lose weight
  • sleep better… put this book down and just sleep
  • learn to meditate
  • de-clutter stress
  • just stay calm
  • don’t throw that across the room… you’ll regret it in a minute
  • stop swearing
  • be a better person
  • just be you and not someone else ( they won’t like it)
  • why are you so obsessed with self help?
  • you haven’t read any of these books, have you?
  • bet you’re feeling overwhelmed by all of these self-help books, aren’t you?

And now my Kindle library has a fine collection of…

  • how to blog
  • what is a blog?
  • It seemed like a good idea at the time, yes?
  • so you think you can blog ( I’m not laughing… honestly!)
  • do you have any idea what you’re doing?
  • thought not

I’ve always been keen on self-help/ improvement… the problem is I just don’t seem to improve. My ideas are very commendable, but, they rarely progress any further than being just ideas.

And so, I muddle my way through life… feeling like a square peg trying to fit in a round hole – with too many damn books to dust.

But, could this be the year I actually get organised? When I de-clutter and therefore de-stress my life?

I could make a start with this blog. I’m very good at constantly changing the theme on Write Dorne, because, that is arty farty and that pretty much sums me up. However, it is something altogether different to actually get to grips with menus, widgets and the real things that make a blog work.

And don’t get me started on the actual posts and pages. How embarrassing is it to actually read through your old posts? I mean… did I actually write some of these things? Was I drunk at the time… probably. And how do I decide which posts stay, which ones are worthy of an update/recycle and which ones should be trashed indefinitely? Some folk very kindly commented on these posts. Can I and should I send their comments to the trash? How rude is that, but, how rubbish are the posts?

Oh, the agony!

But, 2019 could be the year that I actually improve some aspects of my life. I could be the super-cool/ calm/ organised gal that I dream of being… with a blog to match.

There again, do I want to be that woman? Would I be any happier, or better off?

Perhaps, I could begin by donating my self-help library to a charity shop. That would free up space and let me re-claim time that would been spent dusting the books (because, of course I do that religiously).

It would also allow me to find time to sort out my blog (s).

Oh, but wait… first I have to paint the spare room, which also happens to house my desk… where I predominantly blog. The desk could use a coat of paint. I fancy giving it a bit of a shabby chic treatment. But, in order to do it properly I had better get a book on it. In fact I feel sure that there are several books that I could get to help me.

There’s no hope for me really. Perhaps, I need some help… but, none of it self-help.

How about you?

Are you organised?

Do you get embarrassed by your earlier blog posts?

Are you amazed by the different WordPress themes?

Thanks for dropping by.

  1. I am semi-organized. Haha! And yes, I am amazed by different WordPress themes. I’ve changed my blog’s theme several times. I’ve also wasted hours at a time trying different themes and then deciding not to change my theme at that time. I also waste hours trying different background colors and fonts. Oh well!

  2. Ha, are you kidding me? I change themes, the whole reason for a blog! I just went and changed my Welcome page, after you liked it, because I realized it didn’t have anything to do with what I currently use my blog for!

  3. Just started my blog and cannot relate more! so much more admin behind it than just writing a post and immediately having interaction and motivation. Oh, the reality of the ‘behind the scenes’ x

    1. Hi there and sorry for the delay in replying.
Welcome to the blogosphere and I hope that you’re enjoying it so far.
I’ve had a break from blogging and so am getting back into it. It’s great to connect with other bloggers. But, as you say it is time -consuming, but worth it I reckon. X

  4. Haha, I can certainly relate…My bookshelf is full of self-help books! I would read them, get excited, and then move on to the next book before implementing anything. Now, I simply make myself take small writing actions each day, that’s non negotiable! And, to my amazement, each little action amounts up to significant progress.
